Dec. 26th: The Day after Christmas

Thursday's show went GREAT! A lot of friends and family and plenty of time to play my music. Justin, Logan and I played for about 2 hours and I was completely happy with how everything ended up! I was able to play a lot of new songs that I have never played before. We started with a song we've never played in public, "Tough Like Denim" and we threw in some covers like "Luckenbach, TX" and ended with some more originals, a remix of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and finally, Rebecca Black's "Friday" as a joke.
I feel like major progress was made at the show and we are still on our way moving up the ladder of success. BIG things are in store for 2012! Can't wait for what's in store. -MattMarinchick

Back in O-H-I-O

It's good to be home! I love being able to go back to where I grew up and see all the familiar place I used to hang out. I got home last night at 11pm and this morning I already went to buy my gym pass while I'm home and then I stopped by the local music store to say hey and get some guitar picks and strings. I'm headed to a Christmas Dinner tonight then out with some buddies from college that live nearby.
Tomorrow night I'm headed to the Ohio State Basketball. I'd like to see as many as I can while I'm home but we'll see if I can allow myself any more moments to head to Columbus. Ohio State plays Lamar College tomorrow.... I'm guessing a "W" for the Bucks.
Wednesday is going to be a lot of rehearsing by myself. My band wont make it up until Thursday afternoon so they are rehearsing on their own too.
Dec. 22nd marks my first show at The Vortex. I've never played there and I'm really excited to see the place. It sounds like there will be some great opening acts and I know that me and my guys are gonna ROCK! I hope everyone can make it to the show. If you're reading this and can attend. Vortex is on Brittain Road in Akron and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets are $5 through me or $8 at the door.

Aaron Goodvin. Listen to his music.

At this very moment:
I'm sitting in Edgehill Cafe waiting to head over to Blackbird Studio. From what I know, this is the BEST studio in Nashville! Im headed over to get some footage of my buddy Aaron Goodvin at his listening party for his new album that will come out in the beginning of 2012. If you havent heard his music, GO DO IT! Its life-changing. I'm also gonna interview his producer, Eddie Gore and his promoter, Erica Scherle. This is all going to be put towards a promotional YouTube video to get people to know Aaron and his music better! Im really excited to be a part of this!
Recently:
Ive been hitting the songwriting really hard. Ive had some great songs with Kenneth Duncan and Greg Johnson and I've really been getting super pumped to get all of this together for my show Dec. 22nd in Akron at the Vortex Lounge. Should be an amazing event. I'm also in the process of booking shows at Mamas Country here in Tennessee and at the Ohio Beef Expo at the Ohio Fairgrounds!
Last night I was so impressed by two unbelievable artists. Chris Tapp of the Cold Stares (GO LISTEN TO HIM NOW!!!!) and Eric Sommer (An incredible blues guitar player). My favorite musical night of the month was last night! I was so glad I got to hear both of them at the Renegade Junction. Crystal Hoyt has been doing an amazing job of bringing super talented artists to these showcases and I'm excited to see this thing continue to grow!

P.S. - Sorry it took so long for me to write an entry. I wont let it happen again.
Love, Matt Marinchick

The Groceries of a 6'10" Country Singer

Well, its that time again. Headed to Tony's Food Land for some food to eat at my house. Ive run out of supplies and need to have stuff around to snack on or eat for lunch/dinner. I dont really ever eat breakfast food for breakfast so eggs and waffles and orange juice are never on my shopping list. Since I am all 'beveraged' up at the moment, this will strictly be a food run! Here's what I am heading in to get!

The List:
Peanut Butter
Sugar Free Jelly
Low Carb Tortillas
Milk
Hot Dog Buns
Hot Dogs
Crackers
Shredded Cheese
Cottage Cheese
Crystal Light Mix (Cherry Pomegranate)
Q-Tips
Hand Soap

With these items combined, I create a few 'go-to' meals. Peanut Butter and Jelly Wraps, Quesadillas, and Hot Dogs are my usual meals (all are generally low-carb and high protein). Welcome to my world!

Better By The Beer

I couldn't wait any longer to write the song that has been growing in my head for the last couple days. Without realizing what I had said a couple days back, I told someone, jokingly, that I was getting better by the beer. I was told to text that line to myself and use it for a song and that is exactly what I did. Better By the Beer was written today by Kenneth Duncan, Chad Wilson, and myself. Hopefully I will be able to get it recorded soon and you all can hear this masterpiece!!!!
Tonight I'm headed to The Attic to play at the Renegade Junction which is headed by Crystal Hoyt. I'm excited to play some of my songs for the people that I have been hanging out with for so long that haven't gotten the chance to listen.
Last night was pretty cool. I hung out with Steve Cropper (Writer of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay") and watched him work his magic, producing an Aaron Goodvin's Song called, 'Woman I Got'.

Important Dates:
Nov. 22 - The Attic (Renegade Junction) 8pm
Nov. 30 - Radio Tour through AL and TN
Dec. 2 - Co-Writing Session with Greg Johnson
Dec. 5 - Winners - (Whiskey Jam) 8pm
Dec. 17 - IPR Christmas Party (Youngstown, Ohio)
Dec. 22 - Vortex Lounge (Country Night) 8pm

UPDATES NOV. 21ST

I haven't posted anything in about a week so I guess I can try to play a little catch up with my updates.

I have confirmed dates for a few events which I am excited about:

Nov. 22 - Renegade Junction (at The Attic)
Nov. 30 - Start of Radio Tour through Tennessee and Alabama
Dec. 5 - Whiskey Jam (at Winners)
Dec. 17 - IPR Christmas Party (Youngstown, Ohio)
Dec. 22 - Country Night (at Vortex Lounge in Akron, Ohio)

Hopefully I will be able to book more shows in between those events but its a good start for December!
Some of the other things I've done lately:
-Support the Troops event at Red Rooster - Watched some amazing song writers perform their songs to help raise money for our soldiers.
-My Buddy Jim Dod came down from a hunting trip to check out Nashville and see what I've been up to. Took him on a tour of this amazing place that we call Nashville!
-Went to go watch my brother and Lead Guitarist, Jutt Huffman, play down at Bootleggers Inn where he and Alecia Arnall ROCKED OUT!
-Attempted writing a song with Aaron Goodvin and Crystal Hoyt but got too caught up in creative ideas for a comedy YouTube Channel.... COMING SOON TO A LAPTOP NEAR YOU!
-Watched the CLEVELAND BROWNS win this weekend!!! :)

As for what is coming up, I've got a couple good song ideas and I will begin doing more writing, most likely, as soon as I get off this computer.

What a Tuesday!

I got up at 9am yesterday and started going over my songs for about 30 minutes. After I felt I had a good grasp on what I was doing, got showered and ate, I headed down to Music Row. At 1230 I got to play my songs for the Grand Opening Party at WTS Media.
A funny inside story: Literally, at the end of my second to last song, my guitar string (the stupid G String that I always break, BROKE)which was good timing because little did anyone else know, Jutt Huffman (my lead guitarist and back-up singer) and myself had planned on singing the last song of our set 'acapella'. SO, what looked like an unfortunate event, turned out just as we had planned. :)
After that I went down the block on 17th to Renegade Radio Nashville, an internet radio station that reaches out to 475,000 listeners. We were there to promote the Renegade Junction Writers Showcase held every Tuesday night on Broadway. I will be playing there Nov. 22nd It was a great time and I got to go on with Crystal Hoyt, Jutt Huffman, and myself. Jutt and I played 'Send Her Back To Me' and 'Let Me Change Your Mind'. It went over very well, we signed the wall, met with a promotional company and headed over to Edgehill Cafe to chill out for a while and think about how awesome the beginning of our day was.
At around 8:30pm, after a trip to Target to try to pick up chicks, Just Kidding, Jutt and I headed to the Renegade Junction and we were blown away by Matty Monk. If you've never heard of him, you have GOT to check him out! He's too good to not listen to! And that was another Tuesday in Nashville!

CMA WEEK

Now that CMA Week has come to a close, Im looking back at ALL the things that happened and I am just going to bullet-point the things that I can remember off the top of my head right now... If I think of something later, I will update this blog post.

- Went to see Kenneth Duncan play his music with Lindsay Highlander and Mitch Rossell at Pucketts Grocery
- Met a few radio DJ's from around the U.S. who work with Grassroots. I told them to put me onto heavy rotation onto their stations!!! :) They took some pics with me and will put them on their radio stations websites.
- Took a limo ride after CMA's from Losers to Red Door Saloon. For those of you who do not know, its about 500 feet down the road..... Ya gotta start somewhere, right? :)
- Got to hear Jim Femino play his songs while we hung out after-hours in the studio. Jim Femino is an unbelievable songwriter who wrote country music's "Most played Country song of 2008". Not too shabby!
- Broke up a fight outside of Red Door Saloon!
- Met Natasha Bedingfield at Losers Bar. Told her she was unbelievable in her performance with Rascal Flatts. I didnt mention anything about the dress she wore that looked like someone shot Snuffalupagus from Sesame Street and wrapped it around her....BUT I swear she was staring at me a little more than normal... Maybe someday! :P
- Went to a party held by Buddy Lee Attractions (Jason Aldeans Agency) and got to watch Cat Scratch Fever and Stranglehold LIVE performed by the lead singer himself with band!!! MUSIC FACT: Cat Scratch Fever and Stranglehold were actually NOT sung by Nugent. It was Derek St. Holmes. Everyone thinks it was the Nuge...but St. Holmes ROCKED last night! So cool!
- Set up a co-writing appointment with Greg Johnson. He's had cuts with Clay Walker, Tracy Lawrence (on his Grammy nominated album) Brian McComas, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, Lila McCann and others.
-There is more but those were definitely highlights!!!

Let Me Learn Your Song

The best thing happened last night when I checked my emails. I received an email from a young kid that wanted to learn one of my songs so that he could play it for a girl before asking her to be his girlfriend. I was touched. With all the amazing love songs out there, he wanted to play one of mine. He asked me for the chords and I gladly gave them to him. I feel like this is one of those moments that I will be looking back on and telling my children about someday. That was just a short little moment, but it really meant a lot to me to hear that..... I hope it worked for him!
As things around Nashville pick up, I am running into so many great people in the industry. If there was ever a week in Nashville to go out and meet people, the week is NOW! Every single turn, I run into someone who will be helpful, potentially or currently, in some way. From Tour Managers, to Major Record Execs, I am learning so much about the "business" of music. I cant wait until all this networking starts REALLY paying dividends!!!
November is turning out to be a great month. I was asked to perform for WTS Media for their Grand Opening party. They sent invites to 1000's of people, so I hope the turn out is great! Its right in between Music Row at a very popular hang out spot off of Edgehill Dr.. Thats on November 15 at Noon. THEN, I get to play at the Renegade Junction Writers Showcase on November 22 at The Attic. Another great opportunity to "strut my stuff". Finally, at the end of the month I will be playing at the Whiskey Jam which is held at Winners for "Up and Comers" such as myself! Things are looking up.
In a few days my album will be fully reproduced and ready for physical sale. It will be a very good promotional tool to get the word out as well as a way to make some money on the side! (For $10, you can own one too!) I only have 1000 of them so you guys better hurry up and get yours!
Last night I attended Kenneth Duncans Performance at Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant. He played with Lindsay Highlander and Mitch Rossell. Kenneth wrote a lot of songs for Lindsay and all 3 of them rocked the house! Such a good time! After that was Whiskey Jam at Winners, a trip to Losers next door, and it was time for bed.

November 15 (12pm-2pm) - WTS MEDIA Grand Opening Party @ Edgehill Dr.
November 22 (8pm-11pm) - Renegade Junction Writers Showcase @ The Attic
November 28 (Still Pending) - Whiskey Jam @ Winners

2 Chronicles 16:9

"For the eyes of the Lord search to and fro about the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him...." -2 Chronicles 16-9
From the very beginning of my path into Nashville, I have felt led to do country music. I have been able to deal with the departure of my former career as a basketball player because of that. I know God has a plan for what I'm doing and I am basically just being pushed down that path by Him now. By no means, am I perfect but I can say that is has nothing to do with ME on this journey. Big things are happening, have happened, and I know WILL happen here in my future. God knows my heart, he knows my mind. Everyone else can see from the outside, but will never know what it really means to me to be doing what I am doing down here! I love this place, I love these people, and I love me some country music! I'm so excited to see what is in store for my life!!!
It's always saddening to hear people question my passion and my belief in the what/why/and how of what I am doing, but in the end, it really doesnt matter how people perceive my feelings. It only matters to the "Big Guy Upstairs" and he KNOWS! :) BUY THE ALBUM

UPDATE NOV. 4TH

I'm gonna step back and look at the last week and let everyone know whats been going on. The shows in Columbus, Ohio this last weekend were GREAT! It was so good to see my friends and family and play MANY hours of music! In between shows, Justin and I had a photo shoot for some promotional stuff we will be doing. Emma Parker and her camera took some terrific photos which I posted onto Facebook for people to see! THEN, there was Thad Matta's radio interview on 92.3 WCOL that promoted my album and that was great too! Got a good response, and hopefully some albums sold on iTunes from it!! I stopped into the OSU Mens BBall practice on Saturday and the funniest thing Thad said was, "Matt, promise me one thing." I said "sure". He went on to say, "When I get fired from here, just let me be your tour bus driver, and make sure you get the tour bus with the cooler full of beer in it." He cracked me up!
After a LONG 8 hour drive home, it was nice to recover from that weekend on Monday.
Since then, We booked a songwriters show gig on Nov. 22nd at The Attic called the Renegade Junction hosted by Crystal Hoyt. We also have something set up with WTS Media's Grand Opening Party where we will be playing at their party some of my songs from my album. (If anyone is in need of CD Pressing, check WTS Media out. They're great!)
On a Sidenote, it looks like we will be having a GREAT drummer heading down from Ohio to join the band. Logan Snedeker is the name, drumming is his expertise and he has a great ability to play! He is passionate about his craft and I know its gonna be fun playing shows/events/gigs/parties with this guy!
Also, I went to play bball at the Green Hills YMCA and was astounded to find that John Griffin who works with Grassroots was such an UNBELIEVABLE basketball player. He scored 10 points in our first game and basically won the game for us!!! Great Job John!!!! :P

You guys are certainly welcome to continue to buy the album online or through other websites that I have posted, however I am going to have CD's available at my shows.

The O-H, T-N Connection

It was great to hear all of the great responses from people who tuned in today to WQMX as they played my single at 4:30pm as their Featured Song of the Day. Ken Steel was awesome for doing that! I am hoping that this will really get the snowball rollin down the mountain! Usually Clear Channel stations only play top 30 artists, so to have my song debut there was amazing! So from Nashville, TN in a Starbucks on Broadway Ave., I would like to send my thanks up to Akron, Ohio to the Radio Station WQMX 94.9 FM and to Ken Steel!!!
Earlier today I met with some friends at Taco Mamacita. They are down from Canada to do some co-writing down here in Nashville for the week. I gave them as much help as a new guy in town could and hopefully I'll be able to help them out more down the road. PAY IT FORWARD, as 'they' say.
I'm trying to get some more photo sessions scheduled today for the week. Hopefully later on I'll be able to fill you all in with more information!
Turning on a radio, tuning to your favorite country station, and hearing YOUR OWN song playing across the airwaves, is truly a great feeling. I kinda got a TINY bit emo for a moment... :)
To continue the flow... I now need people to buy the album and tell their friends. There is NO better advertisement or marketing than word of mouth when it comes to building a fan base. I am so thankful for the people who write me or call me asking how they can help! Ive been blessed so completely!
I'm headed over to Justin Huffman's in an hour to continue writing and working on our music!!!

LIVE on the Radio

Well, tomorrow I am supposed to be played on my hometown's country station 94.9 with Ken Steel as the featured new single of the day. I'm really excited for everyone to hear Part Time Lady and call in and respond. 94.9FM WQMX will be where you can listen to it online live. Hopefully everyone can listen in and send some feedback either to me or to the radio station and get my song onto "Heavy" rotation!!! As the word starts to spread about my song, I am hoping everyone can help it out by doing a little promotion of their own. Tell your friends about my album and about myself. I'm more than happy to talk to anyone and accept Friend Requests on Facebook. :)

Livin' on Muscle, Guts, and Luck

That was a Johnny Cash line from a Merle Haggard song... But I love that. "I wouldn't trade a nickel for another buck...I'm livin on muscle, guts and luck." Classic!
My Mom and Dad came down to Nashville this weekend, so I get to be the tour guide to show them the places I have been this last month and the places I WANT to be soon! I'm sitting right off of Music Row now fantasizing of what it would be like to have to be working down here all day long. I think I would think it was rather lovely.
My folks are here until Monday so I have some time to spend some quality time with the my two biggest fans! Its been such a blessing to have my parents supporting what I am doin so heavily!
On the music side, I'm still pluggin' away at writing songs, perfecting old ones, and maintaining my voice. I am singing so much that I really need to stick to my vocal lesson techniques to make sure my voice stays strong!
Thanks to Ma and Pa, I have a lot more of my things with me now... all my guitars and furniture now rest comfortably in my place and I feel like I'm home now! Instead of a place to live, I now have a home!

Back to the Coffee Shops I Go...

Basketball got cancelled tonight, so here I am sitting in a Starbucks on Vanderbilt's campus. Bunches of students, studying away for some test or another, while I blog. I miss school but seeing people frustratingly read text books reminds me of what I am NOT missing.
While in line I was paid a pretty nice compliment that will probably make me sleep well tonight. The man in front of me told me that I reminded him of Elvis Presley. He said I had that type of look as he wished me the best in my music career. Wow. That made me feel good, true or not!
There are a lot of reasons to live in the "South", but hospitality is definitely one of the best reasons. People are so nice down here. I can strike up conversations with anyone, and a lot of the girls here are very friendly and not stuck up. I feel like maybe the northern weather plays a factor in peoples attitudes. When its always nice out, there is no reason to be frigid! :) Of course there are millions of nice people in the "North", but I've found the ratio of nice people here to be MUCH higher.

Edgehill Cafe

Good Afternoon, blog readers. I'm sitting at the Edgehill Cafe right off of music row. My bud, John, just helped me a lot with some promotional tools to help drive my single Part Time Lady. At this very moment, ringtones are now available for purchase for iPhone, and Free for "other" phones of Part Time lady! I posted a link to my Facebook account.
By the way, you guys should check out Facebook. Its a pretty cool site.......... :P
I also got some great contacts for CD duplication and some really great ideas for some promotional videos for fundraising. All in all, today has been a great day so far. Sitting in this cafe, as a new artist in Music City, I KNOW that I have seen dozens of well-known artists walking right by me all afternoon... I just don't know who they are...its like they look different in person, and without all the make-up and designer stage clothing... If you haven't done so, buy my album on iTunes, cdBaby, or ReverbNation. Its getting great reviews, and so far I haven't had to reimburse a single dissatisfied customer!!!! :)

Clean Up

Spend the early afternoon cleaning up all my old YouTube Videos. Since I have my song on the radio now, HOPEFULLY there will be more visits to my page and I wanted to make sure that it looks more professional. So today I hid over 100 videos on my page and just left up a select few for the YouTube world to enjoy!
Now, I'm headin back to my my house to write for the rest of the day. I've got alot of old stuff that is half written and I'm gonna get it all out in front of me and pick them apart looking for anything worth salvaging.
Last night at the Whiskey Jam at Winners Bar, I met up with Ward who does the scheduling their for their open mic. He has my information now and will be scheduling me for early November! It seems like a great place for musicians to spread their music because everyone in the audience there simply comes to hear the music, not just to go and drink.
SIDENOTE: I would like to congratulate my buddy Erik Zadrozny for scoring 21 pts and having 21 rebounds in his recreational bball league game last night! With those stats they might end the NBA lock-out soon and get you playin!!!!

October 10th marks a milestone to my music career. Part Time Lady has just been released to the airwaves as my single. Grassroots Promotion is helping me push this song with e-blasts and radio tours and I am super excited to begin the next part of this journey.
Today in Downtown Nashville, I was able to perform at The Whiskey Bent Saloon. Bart Hansen, was playing from 12 to 6 so I was able to come up and give him a break once in awhile and play some of my music. In total I got to play for about an 1hr15min. I got a great response and in that short amount of time, I sold FIVE of my albums! That was pretty awesome!
Im currently in the process of getting a large amount of CD's produced for sales during my shows in the upcoming NEAR future. Thanks to John Griffin at Grassroots.
Tonight I am going to be working on a song that a buddy wrote. Pretty much re-doing it but keeping the concept and using the main hook, "I Wish It Was A Western." Then I'm off to Losers (A bar on Music Row) to see something called "The Whiskey Jam"....

Down to the Bluebird

I'm headed to the Bluebird Cafe in about an hour. For those of you unfamiliar, The Bluebird is THE place for songwriters to congregate and network. Successful songwriters in the Nashville area perform their, tell stories and barter their advice for attention to their songs. Its a great place and I am excited to get there tonight.
If you asked me where I am now, I would probably lie to you but I will tell you any for posterity. I'm sitting in a gas station Subway dining room. Using their internet drinking a Diet Mountain Dew, Chewing on an old piece of pizza and listening to Waylon Jennings on my headphones, and still, wouldnt trade this for anything. I am so happy where I am. I've always been crazy, but its kept me from going insane.... Thank you Waylon. -MM

Oktoberfest in Nashville

Today was Oktoberfest in Nashville. German Bier, Country Music, Lederhosen and BBQ. Best of both worlds. 1 Liter Beer Mugs were the highlight of the afternoon! By the time half of the beer (Bier for you Germans) was gone, it was the temperature of Chicken Broth.... I guess I like my beer like I like my medication. small doses. But I was able to meet up with some friends, and friends of friends, and family of friends, and people who were not my... friends but are now.
Afterward, I had a quick jam session with Jutt Huffman, John Griffin and yours truly. John had some really great songs and I hope to work with him soon with some writing.
Now it's nap time, 45 minute bike ride, and then hittin the streets again to make sure my name is in good favor with the country music lovers in Johnny Cashville.
I hope that everyone reading will be able to tell at least one person this weekend about what is going on down here with my relationship between me and country music. And furthermore, spread the word about my album on iTunes, ReverbNation, and CDBaby. Thanks ya'll - Matt Marinchick

The Good Life

Picture this if you will: I'm driving down Broadway on a hot afternoon. I have my windows half rolled down to let the air into my Jeep. I don't have AC so I am thankful I got to TN after the summer heat wave. There is a ton of traffic and I slow down to stop at the stop light along with at least 100 other cars. In the opposite direction traffic is the same, and I am casually listening to talk radio as I make my way through the city. Suddenly, I catch a familiar sound that I thought was coming out of my phone. To my surprise, I looked over and saw a convertible Sebring with two 25 year old looking fellows with their top down, PLAYING MY SONG in the car!!! It was The Good Life!!!! I rolled my window down the rest of the way to make sure my ears weren't hallucinating. They were definitely playing it so I yelled over, "Hey, you like that song?!?! That's me!" I received a thumbs up, the lights turned green and we both went on our way.
They might not have completely grasped what had just happened, but for ME, that was the first time I had ever randomly heard someone I had no idea who they were, playing my music! I have never been so excited! I immediately called my folks and my friend Justin Huffman to tell them the news! Its not the most amazing thing in the world but it is pretty freakin sweet from my angle!

It's About Who You Know

My buddy asked me yesterday,"Matt, how are you meeting all these people in the music business that are able to help you?" I simply said, "Drink as much beer as you can with as many people as you can, as often as you can." I was over-exaggerating a little but the foundation is there. Getting yourself out there is the best way to get yourself out there. It's surprising the people I come across who are eager to help and who like helping hardworking individuals such as myself. Making a good, strong impression really goes a long way and I am so excited about the stuff I'm putting out that I think it starts to emanate from my pores!!!! I have no doubt when people hear my music they will be blown away so for me to go out and try to get people to push it for me is on top of my to-do list.
Example 1: Last night I went to play basketball at Montgomery Bell Academy which holds an open gym for guys "my age" and it was a blast. Met a lot of new friends and fans, and as luck would have it. I also gained a friend who may be able to help me out with getting some shows going down here in Nashville! Such a big city, with a big community of musicians and music industry people...It's always nice to run into people who are willing to help a new guy out!

Chasing My Dreams

Sitting in a Starbucks, eves-dropping on the business meeting across the room, only makes me realize how happy and thankful I am that I am chasing my dream. I am not totally writing that off in my life... SOMEDAY I might like that... but for now, I'd rather sit behind my guitar than a desk. I am sure they'd rather be doing something else but it's easy to settle sometimes. I tell myself and my friends, If you are going to go for your "Plan A" then don't water that plan down with a "Plan B". If you leave your foot in the door of another path you can never EVER step all the way through another door. I'm so encouraged by all the support from my fans, friends, and family as I pursue this elusive beast that is being a Country Music Singer! Trust your struggle.
If it was easy, then it wouldn't be worth it....the same applies for finding a girl I think... If she's too easy, then she won't be worth it. Life and Art always imitate themselves.

The Song That Gets Me Through The Day: Elvin Bishop - Fooled Around and Fell In Love

I musta been through about a million girls....I'd love em and then I'd leave em alone. I didn't care how much they cried, no sir. Their tears left me cold as a stone. Then I fooled around and fell in love.

Deep Thoughts by Matt Marinchick

As the afternoon on a Tuesday rolls around again, I would like to stop and reflect about my life.
As good as it is, as many things that are amazing and successful, when there is something that is "negative" or "not as good as I wanted it", THOSE are the things that outweigh all the other "positives"...
Fortunately, I do my best writing during these emotional highs and lows. So Its back to the notepad I go with pen and guitar pick in hand.
But I digress.... I've written 5 songs in the last 3 days....and I am NOT upset about that at all. As a songwriter, I get into zones sometimes where thoughts flow freely outta my brain and onto paper.... This is that moment. So, I'm trying to "milk the cow until it's dry" as "they" say...
In less than one week I will be having my song placed onto the radio. Part Time Lady has the potential to be a great hit! Its gonna take a lot of us promoting and requesting it at your respected local radio station! Thanks, everyone in advance. I know I will talk to you before that though. God willing and the creek don't rise....

First Official Co-Write at Curb Records

Today may possibly be the beginning of the NEXT chapter of my life. But I'd like to digress to yesterday morning. I received a telephone call at 830am from my former coach at Ohio State, Thad Matta. Coach Matta told me he heard my single (Part Time Lady), loved it, and wants to promote it when Midnight Madness comes around. Coach Matta is a huge country fan and does advertisements on Columbus, Ohio's country station 92.3 and wants to plug my music! How cool is that?!?!?!

And now its Monday, I got up early and gathered all my writing stuff and drove down Music Row until I got to the Curb Records Writing House. That's where I met the phenomenal song writer, Kenneth Duncan. (LOOK HIM UP!) We sat down and 3 hours later wrote an amazing song and I cant wait til it hits the radio because its THAT good!

The ball is still rollin', and I'm keepin it from slowin'!

The Song That Gets Me Through the Day: Merle Haggard - Mama Tried

One and a Half Days Left in September

My birth month is coming to an end. This means that my Single Release, 'Part Time Lady' to the radio is right around the bend. I am working with Grassroots to get everything in order and I am really getting anxious. I am sure people are gonna like the song but this will be another chapter in my tale. Once this song hits the radio, it will be my responsibility along with Grassroots to promote the HECK out of this song! October 10th will be the start and I will be asking everyone for help with the push. All you would need to do when the time comes is to call your radio station and ask them to play it..... Pretty easy. I will let you know when that is! Thanks everyone.
Here is a little treat for ya. I just got my photos back from the shoot I just did a few days ago. I am just posting one. When you guys see it. Write me back on Facebook and tell me what you think. Thanks ya'll!

The Song That Gets Me Through Today: Patsy Cline - Crazy Arms

Blue is not the word for the way that I feel and the storm brewing in this heart of mine.

Cold and Flu Season

A ton of feathers weighs the same as a ton of rocks....just there will be a lot more feathers. Today I woke up and it felt like I had a ton of feathers lying on me. Not as painful as rocks, but still, it didn't feel that nice. I'm getting sick. Over the last two days my throat, nose, and sinuses have progressively deteriorated into a sniffling, stuffy mess. There will be no singing while I attempt my recovery.
I walked into the pharmacy at Walgreen's this morning, explained my story, and was given Generic Brand Claritin D by the pharmacist who went on to have me sign a waiver. I said, "What? Is this a wrongful death disclaimer?" jokingly, but the Doc said that it was me promising that, "I will not use this medicine to create Crystal Meth..." I feel like if I WERE going to use it for an ingredient in my favorite drug (Just kidding), I would still sign the waiver saying I wouldnt.....
Today will be dedicated to songwriting, administration, promotion, and the betterment of one 5'22" guy I know all too well. Good Morning/Afternoon People! -M.Marinchick

A Combination of Cash, Wayne, and Paisley.

I dont recall if I stated in my last blog entry, how amazingly well the photo shoot went the other day, but if I did, then I am just reiterating. Over the 3 different locations throughout Nashville, I think that we got some amazing shots! When I've explained it to people I can only express it by saying that I felt like a cross between Johnny Cash, John Wayne, and Brad Paisley in these pictures.
The quest to piece together a band continues today at Justin's place. Drummer and Guitar Player. In the mean time, I will be working on some songs to play with this said band. Im always baffled by how many songs our brains can actually memorize! There's a lot more space up there than I thought!!!!

My Third Monday in Nashville

The beginning of week number three is here. As I prepare for the week I have to step back and look at where I am at. Music City, thousands of people come here by the week to see what makes this city so alive. The music, the people, and the nightlife are what made ME fall in love with Nashville. There are some people who look at this same city and see it as the place where dreams were broken, hopes were shattered and a lifetime of practice, writing, and performing are put to an end. As I am just a newcomer I hope to never see those days. I have been having a fair amount of success and I'm working hard to keep it going. I am thankful for everyone who has supported me, my venture down here to pursue my passion, and my journey as a country singer hoping to make it BIG! Thank you! -Matt Marinchick

The Song That Will Get Me Through Today: David Allan Coe - You Never Even Called Me By My Name

Sunday Morning: Hair and Make-Up

Photo shoot today. Break out the black eyeliner and the mousse, I'm gonna go "mysterious" for this session... Emo-Country will be my new niche.

But seriously though, I DO have a photo shoot today! Photos by Jan, a good friend who is originally based out of L.A..(Do you put a period after another period if your sentence ends with a period like, "L.A."?) We are either heading to a train track (Traditional Country Scene) or a bar. I have complete faith in Jan. He is an amazing photographer. I can see by the photos he has done and the passion he has when he talks about creating that I have nothing to worry about. This will be an all day shoot and I am really excited about it. Justin is coming to so we are gonna do some solo stuff and a couple pics together as he will be my lead guitarist once the 'playing out' gets up and running.

Side note: I bought a pair of unnecessary running shoes at Nordstrom yesterday. Realizing when I got home that the running shoes I have at home are in near mint condition, I now know my next trip to the mall will be to take my money back from the fine people in the Nordstrom shoe department (If anyone with 'BIG' feet need to find shoes, I suggest you look there though).

Workin for the Weekend

Saturday is here. Another work week has come and gone! My Friday was an exciting one because it was the day I released my Demo. It's such a great feeling to have people sending messages asking how and where to purchase something you made! The artist in me was overwhelmed at the great response.
Later that day, I got to experience to of Nashville's finer points. Yazoo Brewery and South Street. I'm definitely going back. I topped off the night by heading out with my bro Justin Huffman (soon to be Jutt Huffman - Lead Guitar Virtuoso) to Tin Roof and Red Rooster. I considered Friday a celebratory day because of the release so I stayed out a lot later than normal and I am very glad I did! Some dancing out at the club filled in the cracks.... I forgot to tell you I can dance like nobody is watching... and they shouldn't be.
Im headin to the mall soon, just window shopping but "Jutt" needs some new jeans. Im a tag-along today.
Tomorrow I have my photo shoot. Glamour Shots by Jan....Should be a great time!

Today is the Day: Album Release

I will end this post with a little promotion for my album but I wanted to just say a few words about the lead up to this Friday as I release my Demo to the public.
A month ago I came down to Nashville in hopes of recording my demo and getting to meet some people who can turn me in a direction to start walking down in hopes of getting something going with my music career. Now 27 days later, I'm sitting in front of my laptop pushing my demo album (that I couldn't be happier with), a single release for Part Time Lady set for October 10th, and a radio promotion tour getting set to kick off. I am loving what is happening. The leap of faith has been showing to be fruitful. As soon as I stopped letting my own hesitations get in the way of what I felt God was calling me to do, doors started opening and paths to go down started being revealed. I would like to end with the verse from the Bible that started it all of for me....2 Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the Lord search to and fro about the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His."

After the Meeting

Alrighty! Well, I just want to fill everyone in on what is going on now that I am back from my meeting. I met the whole Grassroots team except one who was busy with a separate radio tour promotion. They are a great group of people who I am excited to work with. The meeting was comprised of them introducing themselves and their work to me, me introducing myself to them on a deeper level, a 3 song acoustic performance, a business plan, and I was out the door. More specifically we are about to initiate the music push for 'Part Time Lady' and start the radio tour. In the next few days, more and more information will be heading my way expressing the specific details of what will be going on.
I'm really excited to start traveling around and introducing myself and my music to THE WORLD! I feel like I made 6 new friends today. Like I said, they are a great bunch of people. -Matt Marinchick

Big Thursday

Well today is the day I've been looking forward to since the day I got to Nashville. Today is the first day of the push for one of my songs. Part Time Lady is going to be my single and Grassroots is going to be pushing it for me, with my help. I am heading into ASCAP (Music Royalties Company) and doing some interviews, an acoustic set and officially giving the go-ahead for the song! The song is going to be pushed to 300+ radio stations along with another drive that sends my single along with all the other singles that come out at the same time to 1700 radio stations! Thanks to Paul Lovelace at CDX for that! All singles that go to radio stations are placed on a compilation CD that DJ's can access all of them. So for instance, if Brad Paisley were to come out with a single at the same time as mine, his song would be right up there next to mine! Pretty cool, and a great opportunity to get my song heard!

As far as my album release is going. Things are pretty much set for Friday's release. I am having a little difficulty with my UPC Bar Code information. Hopefully I hear back soon and I can get it straightened out! I WILL FIND A WAY NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TO GET THE CD OUT!!! :)

Thanks ya'll

Tuesday in Nashville: Sept. 20th

Today was a pretty normal day. Every day I try to make SOME sort of advancement with my music no matter how big or small. I am gonna write todays "to-done" list and may randomly post other days lists of things I accomplished in weeks to come.

To Done List

1. Promoting my new album release through release of Free Acoustic Versions
2. Scheduled meeting with local producer for Wednesday Lunch meeting
3. Songwriting (3 hours at Starbucks)
4. Successfully registered 10 songs with BMI
5. Lined up tomorrow night - Songwriting then Alan Jackson/Eric Church Concert!

Now I lay me down to sleep but I am gonna listen to a few classic country songs on YouTube before I hit the sack! Good Night Ya'll!

Classic Country: One of my favorites

The First Step

Im going to document my life and times down here in Nashville and create a place off of facebook to really get a look at my life as I work toward "making it." Here it goes!!!!
